ADVENTURE WORKS OF DEKALB COUNTY, INC.
Partnering for Student Wellness with Adventure Works
At St. Mary School, we believe in supporting the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. We are proud to partner with Adventure Worksto provide mental health and social-emotional support services directly within our school day. Through this vital collaboration, Adventure Works offers on-site individual and group counseling, social-emotional learning programs, and targeted support for students and faculty—all at no cost to families. What makes this partnership exceptional is how deeply Adventure Works is woven into our school culture:
Faculty Training: Each year, our staff participates in professional development sessions led by Adventure Works. Topics include classroom behavior strategies, emotional regulation, and a deeper understanding of Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and other forms of neurodiversity. These trainings equip our teachers with practical tools and compassionate approaches to meet the diverse emotional and behavioral needs of our students—creating a more inclusive and supportive classroom environment for all.
Teacher Consultation & Classroom Support: Adventure Works plays an active role in our classrooms by regularly observing, consulting with teachers, and offering personalized strategies to support the unique needs of our students. This includes practical tools like de-escalation techniques, calming corners, and sensory supports tailored to the social-emotional makeup of each class. Teachers also receive ongoing training in best practices for Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) and trauma-informed education, equipping them to effectively support a wide range of learners in a compassionate and responsive environment.
Student-Centered Counseling: Whether through one-on-one or small group work, Adventure Works meets students across all grades where they are—helping them build emotional resilience, strengthen peer relationships, and develop healthy coping skills.
This partnership is more than a program—it’s part of our identity. We are grateful for the expertise and care Adventure Works brings to our school community and proud to make mental health a priority for our students and staff every day.
